Psarocolius montezuma (Montezuma Oropendola)
With its dark brown plumage, bright orange bill, and striking yellow tail, the Montezuma Oropendola is one of the most iconic birds of Costa Rica. It builds long, hanging nests in colonies high in the trees, and its call is a mix of metallic and bubbling notes that echo through the rainforest.

Thalurania colombica (Violet-crowned Woodnymph)
A jewel of the rainforest, this hummingbird displays shimmering emerald-green feathers and a violet crown that sparkles in the light. Constantly in motion, it hovers gracefully among flowers, feeding on nectar while fiercely defending its territory—even against bees, as seen here.

Agalychnis callidryas (Red-eyed Tree Frog)
Known for its bright red eyes, vibrant green body, and orange toes, this nocturnal frog is a symbol of Costa Rica’s tropical forests. By day it hides under leaves, blending perfectly with the greenery, and by night it becomes active, feeding and calling in the humid rainforest environment.
